8 Vegetarian Cheap Meals that are easy on the wallet


The best thing about being a vegetarian is the food! It’s easier than ever to find cheap, delicious meatless options. I love trying out new recipes and restaurants, but sometimes it can get expensive. That’s why this blog post will show you some of my best cheap vegetarian meals that are easy on the wallet.

1. Smoothies

One of the easiest vegetarian cheap meals out there is a smoothie! You can find so many combinations and easy vegetarian recipes online, and they often only require maybe one or two ingredients. I like to keep frozen fruit in my freezer at all times for when I feel like making a smoothie, but if you’re looking for something right away just stop by your local grocery store or bodega and pick up some fresh fruit on sale then add that into your blender with whatever other ingredients you want to use (frozen bananas are great because they make your smoothie nice and cold).

2. Tacos / Burritos / Quesadillas

This vegetarian cheap meal is also one of my favorites! Vegetarian tacos, burritos, and quesadillas can be made in so many different ways with just a few simple ingredients. You can either make them at home or stop by your favorite Mexican restaurant – just make sure to ask for no meat on your order.

3. Soup

Soup is another great vegetarian cheap meal because it’s often very filling and comforting. I like to make a big pot of soup on the weekends that will last me through the week, or you can find tons of pre-made soups at the grocery store that are usually vegan and vegetarian friendly.

4. Salads

Salads can also be a great vegetarian cheap meal option, especially if you add some hearty toppings like beans, grilled vegetables, or nuts and seeds. I usually like to buy a big bag of salad greens at the grocery store and then add whatever other ingredients I have on hand, or you can find premade salads at most restaurants if you’re not feeling creative that day.

5. Pasta

Pasta is another one of my all-time favorite vegetarian cheap meals. You can make it with any kind of sauce – tomato, Alfredo, pesto, etc. – and add any vegetables you want. I also like to keep a big container of cooked pasta in my fridge so that I can easily make a meal out of it whenever I need one.

6. Frozen Meals

If you’re looking for a vegetarian cheap meal that’s already made for you, frozen meals can be a great option. Just make sure to check the ingredients list before you buy to make sure there are no meat products included. And of course, always read the nutrition label to see how many calories and grams of fat are in each serving.

7. Beans and Rice

Beans and rice is a classic vegetarian dish that’s both cheap and easy to make. Just cook up some brown rice on the stovetop, then add a can of beans for extra protein

8. Cereal / Oatmeal / Breakfast Bars

Depending on what kind of vegetarian you are, breakfast might be one of the easiest meals to stick to on a cheap budget. Cereal, oatmeal, and breakfast bars are all readily available and relatively inexpensive. And many vegetarian breakfast foods are also high in protein and fiber.
