A vegan diet like tofu does contain omega 3, but the compound is not as effective or as active as the one found in animal sources. The omega 3 found in plant sources is known as alpha-linolenic acid, but our bodies need to convert this ALA into docosahexaenoic acid – DHA, in order to get some benefits from it. And the sad part is that the human body is not capable of doing so. Both DHA and EPA found in our bodies are responsible for brain health and that is obtained from animal sources. Furthermore, vegans are using unripe jackfruit to replicate the texture and taste of pork. But it does not give the same amount of protein that one may get from pork. It is not a good replacement for meat.  Most plants do not contain large amounts of amino acids and hence are incapable of giving us enough protein. The human body requires 9 forms of amino acids, but one essential form is absent in plants. Humans should get this one from supplements if they are vegans. A diet of lentils and beans does give you good proteins but does not make the amount sufficient.

Moreover, plant sources may be higher in iron, but their iron content is not the best type as per the requirements of the human body. Animal sources contain haem iron, while plant sources have non-haem iron. The latter is not absorbed well by the body and vegans easily become iron deficient. Women suffer from this more because they need a sufficient amount of iron in their bodies during menstruation. In a particular study, it was revealed that vegans were at the highest risk for an iron deficiency when compared with vegetarians and non-vegetarians.
